Announcement and Call for Papers: World Congress on CBRNe Science & Consequence Management (CSCM).

In coordination with and under the auspices of the Government of Georgia, the International Organizing Committee (IOC) of the CSCM is pleased to announce the 21st meeting in this Congress series. The Congress focuses on the science underlying Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNe) counterproliferation and counterterrorism issues, and the management of related events, with the goal of promoting a better understanding and minimizing the risk of the CBRNe threat.
The purpose of the Congress is to bring together subject matter experts concerned with the scientific, technical and policy aspects of CBRNe and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) threats and responses as well as to advertise the existence and capabilities of the Lugar Center, a new Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) which is part of the Georgian National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC).
The 2014 Congress continues the tradition from 14 previous Congresses held under the prior rubric, “CBMTS” (Chemical, Biological, Medical Treatment Symposium) series This Congress is expected to involve between 200 and 300 participants from 40 or more countries and will provide an excellent chance to interact with like-minded specialists from many organizations in one setting. The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), through European Union (EU) funding, and the Government of Georgia are supporting the organization of this year’s Congress.
The Georgian Prime Minister, Mr. Irakli Gharibashvili, has consented to be the Honorary Congress Director. High-level keynote speakers will include: US Ambassador, Richard Norland; H.E. Mr. Ahmet Üzümcü, Director General Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW); Mr. Francesco Marelli, UNICRI’s Head for the CBRN Risk Mitigation and Security Governance Program; Mr. Steve Papagiotas from CDC Emergency Management; Mr. Charlie English, Emergency Management Director of the State of Georgia; and MGEN Jeff Mathis, Joint Task Force Civil Support (JTF-CS). In addition, the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is sponsoring a Consequence Management Day.
Within the framework of the Congress, a call for papers has been launched. Papers should focus on the following topics areas: Chemical, Nuclear/Radiological, Biological, New S&T developments relevant to CBRN threats, CBRN/WMD Counterproliferation, CBRNe Crisis and Consequence Management and CBRN Forensics.
Presentations are subject to peer-review prior to confirmation of acceptance. Further information is available at the official CSCM website. Registration forms and instructions for abstract submission can be found there.
